Got twitter?

Have you heard about twitter? Do you own a twitter account? Have you been followed? Are you following a friend, someone you know, a famous person, a favorite band, a co-worker, a company, an organization, a network or an event in twitter?

What’s the big deal of twittering or be tweeted? I asked myself that question many times ever since the first time I heard people talking of the matter.

Today, twitter has quickly become a widely popular live short-message service all around world. It keeps all the mentioned above connected from everywhere and anywhere, while using an Internet or mobile provider in devices such as a desktop computers, laptops, handheld computers, cell phones, blackberrys, smartphones [yep, like the iPhone]—you name it!.

What impressed me the most (reason why I decided to join at this point) is how it’s also transformed in a considerably powerful marketing tool. Twitter is no longer only been used for sharing one’s thoughts or talking to somebody.

In my opinion, twitter is one of the bests, if not the best, virtual word-of-mouth marketing technique one can use. It has many advantages. It’s free, it doesn’t require much time to be used, millions of people are on it, and is easy to spread your virtual word-of-mouth notifications with it using a mobile device (SMS sending), an application (e.g., for mac users, Twitterrific) or @twitter.com—think + type = say it in 140 characters! (tweet it!).

Businesses and individuals interested on branding themselves or promoting something through viral marketing couldn’t choose a better online marketing tool for it. Imagine just the efficiency real word-of-mouth publicity usually has, then multiply that by thousands. Twitter makes this possible, as the Internet has the advantage of having no physical barriers among persons. More and more people can stay in touch worldwide and recommend things to each other.
