Hi Jessi,
I guess I've never heard of such organizations you've mentioned. I've visited this one's website and it is true what you say. I specially agree on the last thing you said—"at least, they say they do!", because I'm not yet completely sure that what they call "fair trade' is indeed fair for the indigenous. Anyhow, that's only my own humble opinion on the topic.

About getting homesick. I do get a bit homesick sometimes... missing the people, food, places and culture. But fortunately, so far, I've been able to manage it well, by staying in touch with people and going back home at least once a year ever since I've moved out of the country.

Diana, I love the photo! And I agree that the people making these beautiful things by hand should be paid fairly, not exploited.

However, for those of us who haven't made the trip to this part of the world yet, there are lots of fair trade organizations that sell these things online and pay the makers fairly (at least, they say they do!). For instance, http://www.coloresdelpueblo.org (or just google "fair trade mexican crafts")

That said, I do plan to visit southern Mexico someday!

Do you get homesick for your native country sometimes? I think I would!
