Surrealistic world?

Surrealism, according to my diccionary [1], is “a 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature that sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images.”

Probably more than knowing the history of how this branch of art started, you can name several famous artists from this movement—Salvador Dalí, André Breton, Joan Miró, René Magritte, Marcel Duchamp, among others.

Because of its imagination, non-sense, calmness, contrast, colorfulness, meaningfulness, eccentricity and peacefulness; Surrealism won my heart. New to me in the early 90’s, but not new to the world in that decade, Surrealism was born with André Breton in the beginning of the 20’s.

Every time we step into the outside world, it’s unimaginable when will you see people conveying an idea, message or moment in a Surrealistic way. It can happen as an image of people and buildings that you put together; it could only be the people, it could only be the buildings; or it could be nature, fauna, something beyond than just a piece of art placed in a museum.

A beautiful example of Surrealistic architecture that I can recommend to see [if you haven't heard of it or had the chance to go there], is located in my home-country [yep, México]. In the middle of the country, in a town called “Xilitla” in the state of “San Luis Potosí”—a magic place in the forest can be found.

A British wealthy poet, Edward James, moved to México around the 40’s and decided he wanted to build his own personal Eden’s Garden in Xilitla. Surrealism, being one of his passions, had to be involved in some way within the architecture of this place. It took him a very ‘while’ to make his dream happen, but not even after 35 years of working in his project, he finished his so called Eden’s Garden.

To this day, if you are visiting the town of Xilitla, you can enter and see this astonish place, “Las Pozas de Edward James”, which turned out to be an unfinished huge Surrealistic Castle within the forest.

Do you know any other magic Surrealistic places like this somewhere in the world you can recommend worth seeing?
