Football fever?

“Allez, allez, allez! Tapez! dans le ballon, Tapez! sur le voisin, football football football, football football football, Larchuma Football Club, football football football, football! Larchuma Football Club, Santa Maradona priez pour moi…” [1] That’s how this football song from the ex-band “Mano Negra” chorus goes.

I had to share some of this lyrics as it’s one of my favorite football songs, and speaking about football, this month’s topic could not be missed around here either.

Probably you’re fed up already of hearing, watching and reading about football everywhere [oh well...]. I’ll bet as you walk over the streets, passing through small coffee shops, restaurants and bars, you couldn’t help but noticing the big screen TV they’ve recently acquired. In most of the cases, to make it more noticeable for their potential customers, no bother to put it inside, but place it outside. It’s summer anyway! They probably thought it’d be nice for one to take a sunbath while having a drink or munchies, at the same time one is enjoying a match of the FIFA World Cup 2010.

As you enter a store, go to work, talk to your friends, turn on the radio or TV, browse the Internet (maybe within your favorite social media site—Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Delicious) football is all they talk about. Are you already bored? I can say I’m not. I’m part of this ‘football fever’. I’m still proud and excited to support my own country’s team—México ¡Vamos Muchachos! As any other football Mexican fan, I still believe in our team, and hope we do better this World Cup than the last one.

I’m also watching closely the matches from Brazil, Argentina, Italy and Germany. In that order, I also support those teams. Wishing one of them could be champion in South Africa. The first three teams, I’ve been following for years; and the last one, clearly for being such a welcoming country so far with me [yep, if you didn't know, I'm currently living in Germany].

If you care to read about the predictions for the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner made by a bunch of marketer people who wanted to have a piece of this cake, read this interesting article a friend wrote in his blog @idaconcpts.com.

How’s the ‘football fever’ in your country? Which teams are you supporting on top of the one from your own country?
